Several years ago attending a forgiveness course taught by Sharon Collins at a mega church was one of the most insightful classes I could have chosen. One of the videos shown, addressed the power of forgiveness and how much more effective a man's ministry was after choosing to forgive others. I took the course alongside other church members who were having issues with forgiveness. The class helped us understand the disadvantages of refusing to let go of offences. Holding on to unforgiveness can create negative life changes such as prayers that are hindered, bitterness leading to dis-ease, terminal illness, missed blessings, relationship destroying capabilities, and closed doors to ministry.

Matthew 6 in the Holy Bible; Jesus addresses forgiving others.

Luke 23 Jesus asks His Father to forgive those who had wronged him.

Mark 11: 26 tells us that IF we refuse to forgive others, our Heavenly Father will not forgive our trespasses.

Listed below are a few chapters and books in the Holy Scriptures which address forgiveness.

Matthew 18, Mark 11, Luke 17, Act 13, 2 Corinthians 2, and Ephesians 1.

In 2 Timothy 3:3 NIV, NLT, Berean, NKJV, and the New Heart Bible; There is a warning regarding the last days and unforgiving is listed among the many character flaws of people in the last days. In other versions the synonyms implacable, uncooperative, irreconcilable, trucebreakers, hateful, merciless, and ones refusing to make peace are used instead of the word unforgiving.

King David was well aware of the harshness and wrath of unforgiveness.

David answered Gad, "I am deeply distressed. Please, let us fall into the hands of the LORD, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men."

King Solomon knew the importance of being in right relationship with God as a precedence for future productivity and success. He offered up prayers and supplication to God. King Solomon beseeched the Lord God Almighty for forgiveness of the sins of the congregation of Israel, God's people in 1 Kings 8.

A new book published by Thomas Nelson is "Forgiving What You Can't Forget" by Lysa Terkeurst . She addresses the deceptiveness behind unforgiveness and how to strategically attack the lies of the enemy. She also has a DVD and Study Guide for Bible Study Groups available through
