Control Issues?

I have been thinking about how God gives us free will even with bad decisions and respects our right to choose. Mankind is willing to usurp their authority over another's will and often try to control or change the behavior of other adults to what they think the person should become while also not even considering the damage inflicted upon the person. Is it narcissistic or demonic? What caused me to ponder this subject was when a man said he was distressed because a loved one had developed, matured, and became independent of him and he was now trying to find ways to still control the individual. I found the statement alarming and asked him why can't you just love your loved one, contribute something meaningful to the person, or support the person's dreams? He looked at me as if I was an alien. Are there many who share his views? Are there many who don't see this as a dysfunctional attitude? Please explain to me how this works; a person can begin doing good but another person becomes judge and jury on how another should not be able to independently think, act, speak, and live outside of the controller's desires. I don't understand how an individual can be so deceived into thinking his or her bad actions are good for someone. How can they not see their manipulative ploys are tools used by the enemy? How can they not recognize that love has been replaced with fear? What past hurts, demonic influences, or doors to a dark world were opened to make them think it is okay to steal, kill, or destroy someone's desire to excel, advance, and complete their destiny? I believe that just because someone has different but healthy goals, positive world-changing dreams, or universal visions for their life other than what another may deem the best choice, we do not have the right to play god in another person's life.
