Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
During troubling times, King Ahaz drew further way from God and began leaning to his own understanding. His loyalty and faith was placed in idol gods instead. He started looking at the king of Aram's success and figured I'll serve his gods and they will help me like they helped him; but this was King Ahaz's downfall. 2 Chronicles 28:22-23
King Ahaz had a relationship with God or the passage would not have mentioned his drawing further away from God. What happened to cause him to stop trusting in God?
King Ahaz chose to follow his own path instead of worshipping the God of his ancestors. He destroyed the utensils of God's temple and the shut the doors of the Lord's temple. He made altars for other gods on every street corner and offered incense to the idols gods. Of course, his actions provoked God. 2 Chronicles 22:24-25; At the end of his life, he was not buried in the tombs with the other kings of Israel. vs 27.
What angered King Ahaz so much that it caused him to destroy the utensils in God's temple and shut the doors of the Lord's temple? What in life has caused you to abandon your first love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit?
